Posted on May 5, 2012

Some people just aren’t themselves without that morning cup of coffee. I am no exception. There’s something about that first hot sip of house blend to get my brain working. Having been a coffee drinker for some time now I know that coffee comes in many flavors, blends and roasts. It’s still fun discovering different blends of coffee beans from around the world. Oh wait, what a great gift basket that would make!

Of course you can buy a beautiful basket of java online, but making a themed coffee basket is fun too. There are a few themes you can go with. Make a coffee gift basket filled with a particular roast. Let’s use french roast as an example. A basket can be filled with a few bags of french roast coffees and you can even pair it with a french press. Or perhaps coffees from the tropics is more your recipients taste. Kona coffee from Hawaii or Jamaican Blue Moutain would both make great additions to a tropical coffee gift basket. You can also create a Turkish coffee gift basket such as this Turkish Coffee Gift Basket for a truly unique coffee brewing experience. Whatever your recipients coffee preferences, coffee gift baskets are definitely a gift that will be used to start their every morning on the right foot.

Pet Gift Basket

Posted on April 8, 2012

Pets are a part of many people’s lives. Their company brightens our spirits and in caring for them they become part of the family. When my husband and I got a cat a few years back his aunt has made it a tradition to always buy a Christmas gift for our cat. It’s usually a toy and/or some treats. In return I thought, what a great gift idea it would be to create a pet gift basket to give to her dog next Christmas.

Just one stroll down the pet aisle at your local grocery store and you’d have the makings of a great pet gift basket. Treats and toys galore to fill up a basket that can even be used over and over as a container for all the pet’s toys. For a cat owner a gift basket full of cat nip, treats, toy mice, a collar, brush and a book on cat care are great. For the dog owner a gift basket can consist of squeaky toys, balls, a book about teaching dogs tricks, treats, dog bones and a leash for walking the dog. Just as it’s important for us humans to eat healthy, the same goes for our pets. A gift basket full of homemade snacks and food and/or a recipe book on making homemade treats is great for the animal lover that like to feed their pet all natural foods.

If you adopted your pet from a local animal shelter a pet gift basket is a generous way to say thank you for the care they provided to your pet prior to adopting it. It’s also a means to donate a basket full of much needed items to run the shelter. Examples of items they always need are canned dog and cat food, paper towels, leashes, collars, laundry detergent as well as other household cleaners.

To buy or to make, a decision I often toy with when considering giving a gift basket to someone. A professionally made gift basket always looks great, but I find that sometimes there are just one or two items I know my recipient won’t enjoy as much as the rest. A mix and match gift basket is the best of both worlds! You can choose what items to include in your basket and which ribbon to wrap it all up with. It gives your gift basket that personalized touch and the best part is that someone else will make it for you!

Wolferman’s gifts has a great create your own option on their website. You start by choosing the amount of items you want to include and then you get to choose from a huge list of delicious breads, jams and sweet spreads. Dean & Deluca also offers mix and match gift baskets, but on their website you start by choosing the theme of your gift. You can choose as many items as you like and they tell you how many spaces in the gift basket each item takes up. You can also fill your basket with items from more than one theme category. These are just a couple examples of the mix and match options online. So now that you know you aren’t confined to a gift basket with items picked out by someone else, go online and have fun mixing and matching when picking out your next gift basket.

Knitting is a hobby that isn’t just for grannies anymore. Craft stores have a huge selection of accessories for the knitting enthusiast. It’s easy to peruse the knitting department of your local craft store and put together a bright and colorful knitting gift basket. Yarn is the first item that comes to mind. You can probably just buy a whole bunch of yarn in various colors and you’d have a beautiful gift basket right there! You can also choose a color theme and create a great looking basket that way. For example earth toned yarn and bamboo knitting needles would make a wonderful organic looking gift. There’s nothing more classic than a basket for holding yarn; and by starting off a gift basket with yarn you already have a cushioned base. Of course, you can keep building upon this gift with this gift by including knitting needles; stick the needles into the yarn and have them standing up. Or buy a knitting needle case as well. Knitting pattern books for making scarfs, hats, socks or quilts are great for someone who enjoys knitting but needs some inspiration or instruction on knitting projects. Tie together the whole look with some yarn and mini yarn balls. You can easily make a couple mini yarn balls by winding a small amount of yarn in 1-2 inch bundles. Sewer’s Gift Basket

Posted on November 2, 2011

Are you looking for a gift for someone who loves to sew or is a budding fashion designer? A sewing themed gift basket is just the ticket for them. There are so many options for filling a basket with sewing accessories. You can start with buying a sewing case as your basket. Fill it with a collection of threads in an assortment of colors. Stick to basic colors that can be used for most applications. Craft stores sell these separately or in a kit. An assortment will make your gift basket arrangement very colorful! Also, if you know the type of clothing or upholstery your friend likes to sew buy a few patterns for them to use. Throw in some other accessories such as needles, pins, thimbles and pin cushions. Include an issue or two of a specialty sewing magazine such as Thread Magazine or Sew Beautiful Magazine. A subscription to these magazines can also be included in your gift. Finish off the look of your gift basket by tying it off with thin ribbon in an assortment of colors (about 3-5 different colors). The ribbons will give the affect of different color threads and really let the sewing theme of the gift shine through. Or use a tape measure to tie off the basket as a playful way to show off the sewing theme. Another fun way to finish off the look of your basket is with some large buttons. Thread some ribbon through a a couple large buttons to tie off the basket. The buttons are a great alternative to a bow.

Picnic Gift Basket

Picnics are great gatherings for two people, families, companies and church organizations alike. Picnics are unique in that we can enjoy great food with good company and they usually take place in a beautiful setting such as a park, lake or anywhere with a picturesque setting. Giving someone a picnic gift basket is a great way to tell them that you want them to sit back and enjoy the scenery without all the work.

A picnic gift basket can be a gift containing the necessary equipment for a picnic to a fully-prepared feast in a field. If you want your gift to prepare your recipient to go on a picnic someday give them the essentials. The basket is just as essential as the contents for a picnic. You can go all out with a picnic basket such as Classic Wicker Picnic Basket with plates, silverware, glassware, food and wine. Or a scaled down version works just as well, like this basket for example. Aside from dinnerware, creative picnic food storage makes for a thoughtful gift. For leak proof containers for salads or a cold soup like gazpacho buy a pair of mason jars. They close tightly and are easier to fit into a picnic basket than a square tupperware container.

As an additional gift for your loved one or friend you can get the picnic started off on the right foot by including a bottle of wine or some non-perishable snacks. Snacks that work well at a picnic setting are finger-food friendly and summery. Think summer sausage or cheese and crackers - just make sure the cheese is vacuum sealed so it stays fresh. After receiving this gift your friends or loved ones will be enjoying the great outdoors in no time!

The Centerpiece Gift Basket

Posted on June 15, 2011

Gift baskets make great centerpieces, seriously! They are arranged beautifully - much like a perfectly arranged vase or bouquet of flowers. For this reason a gift basket can do double duty and serve as a centerpiece for holiday meals. A gift basket as a center piece is something that you can purchase or make ahead of time as the host, or if you anticipate receiving a gift basket for the holidays use that as your centerpiece. The type of gift basket is important. One that is too big probably will not work for this application. If purchasing or making a gift basket as a center piece consider these tips. Make sure the basket is not overpowering for your table - meaning not too wide or too tall. You’ll want to make sure that you still have room for the food and also that it fits in with the table scape. Your center piece gift basket can also serve a function depending on what is included in it. A basket filled with fruit makes a great center piece during the dessert course. Or a gift basket filled with cheese and crackers is perfect as an appetizer. You can even create an artisan bread basket to keep on the table throughout the entire meal. If you receive a gift basket and it fits in with your table scape then your work is done. On the other hand, if you feel that the basket does not quite fit it, you can still display the basket on a side table in your dining room or on your kitchen island. Open it up and let people enjoy it! It’s what gift baskets are all about.
